Day 24 - Sunday 19th August

I went for a walk to Alexandra Park before breakfast ending up at Palm Court. As you would expect, all signs of the Olympic activities at Palm Court had gone. It was a pleasant morning for a walk and the view from Palm Court over London was excellent because there was little or no haze.

Amelia played at home this morning - sandpit, blow-up swimming pool, iPad apps, TV, etc.

Nicky had an appointment with the hospital mid-wife at 1:30pm. John drove her there leaving Suzy and me to look after Amelia. Although today was supposed to be the due date, the mid-wife thinks the baby will arrive within a few days.

Mid-afternoon, John and I drove to the hardware store at North Finchley to get a few things we need for their townhouse while the three girls walked to the playground at Cherry Tree Wood. John and I joined them there afterwards.

Nicky and Suzy cooked dinner at home and it was about 8pm before Amelia got to bed. John then started looking through the iTunes options for a movie to download on the Apple TV. We'd settled on one by about 8:30 and we were waiting for Nicky to come downstairs before we hit the play button.

Nicky seemed to be taking a long time and so John went upstairs to check on her. He found her sitting in the rocking chair in their bedroom. She had gone into labour and the contractions were regular.

John went upstairs and downstairs quite a few times and at about 9:30pm, Nicky came downstairs too so they could go to the hospital.

Suzy retrieved the baby monitor and plugged it in next to our bed so we could check on Amelia during the night. We never did get to see a movie.
